This past week a select number of our Grade 8 students participated in a Day of Learning, visiting some of the organizations that the United Way Oakville supports. Our day began with a visit to Community Living Oakville, where students had a tour of the facility to learn how this organization provides assistance to people with developmental disabilities. We then visited Lighthouse for Grieving Children, a program which provides support primarily to children and teens who often feel powerless, angry and excluded following the death of someone they have been close to, such as a family member or close friend. Our students learned how the program works and were given a tour of the various rooms in the building to gain an understanding of how each room is used. We ended our day with a visit to Food for Life Canada, a program which provides nutritious perishable food to families on a weekly basis. Our students sorted through over 2000 apples to box them in preparation for shipping to school children in Halton region. Overall, this day was a fantastic educational experience!
