Celebrating Earth Week at Rotherglen
It was an exciting and meaningful week at Rotherglen as our students and staff came together to celebrate Earth Week through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities.
Students explored ways to care for our environment while building a deeper appreciation for the natural world. One highlight was planting vegetable seeds in our classroom mini-greenhouses. Students are eagerly checking on their seedlings each day, watching for the first signs of growth. Once the plants are strong enough, they will be transplanted into our outdoor garden tubs, where students will continue to nurture them by watering, weeding, and observing their progress. We look forward to seeing (and tasting!) the results of their hard work.
On Earth Day, April 22, our school community showed their spirit by wearing blue and green for a casual dress day. This provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how we can protect our planet, with students learning about the importance of the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
To further reinforce these lessons, students participated in a Litterless Lunch Challenge, aiming to reduce waste brought from home. We were thrilled to see a significant decrease in garbage across the school, demonstrating the impact small, thoughtful choices can make. Thank you to our families for supporting this initiative and for encouraging conversations at home about sustainability.
Earth Week at Rotherglen was a fantastic reminder that even our youngest learners can make a meaningful difference. Together, we are helping to build lifelong habits that support a healthier, more sustainable future.
