Grade 1 and 8 Reading Buddies

Over the past few days, Grade 8 Leaders have begun to foster meaningful bonds with Grade 1 students through their Reading Buddies initiative. Once every other week, Grade 8 students will spend time reading books with a friend in Grade 1. Through nurturing conversations, Grade 8 Leaders motivate their buddies to discuss what is happening in the books being shared, to offer personal anecdotes related to the stories, and most importantly, Grade 1 students are encouraged to read out loud. The experience is rewarding for all those involved. The students are excited to see one another, and a strong sense of community is noted throughout all interactions. Grade 8 Leaders are to be commended for their kindness, patience, and genuine interest and engagement in supporting younger students.
