Grade 2 Students Learn about Timelines

The Grade 2 students were introduced to the concept of timelines.  They looked at short timelines (their own life) and compared them to timelines that cover a much longer period of time.  After understanding the meaning of decade, century and millennium, the students looked at the passage of time and the concept of why we consider this year to be 2021. The students learned that historically, cultures from all over the world agreed to use the Gregorian calendar. We also reviewed the titles BC/AD and the more current use of BCE/CE. The students were able to find dates place them on the classroom timeline, like the first evidence of chocolate, the invention of kites, and the first use of plus and minus signs. They loved writing the events on sticky notes and placing them on the timeline!
