Grade 5 Students Visit the Canadian Canoe Museum

This entry was posted in Oakville Elementary News, Rotherglen News.
The Grade 5 students had an opportunity to explore the role of the canoe in the development of the trading networks, routes, and relationships of the 18th century, during a virtual field trip to the Canadian Canoe Museum. The students saw the trade goods that drove the “fur trade” – not only metal goods and furs, but other European products and the Indigenous goods and services that made it all possible.
The presenters shared the Canadian Canoe Museum’s artifacts to inspire object-based learning, critical thinking, and discussion of the key relationships between First Nations and newcomers during this era in the Great Lakes region and points west. It was an engaging and informative experience!
