Learn@Home Grade 8 Leadership – Words to Live By

Following the lead of The Kindness Rock Project, the purpose of this assignment was to cultivate connections within the Grade 8 community. The students were asked to lift one another up through simple reminders that although life may prove challenging at times, pressing on with vision, intention, and a grateful heart can pull us through the most difficult of experiences. With the belief that one message, at just the right moment can change someone’s entire day, outlook, and life, the students created their own “virtual rock” to remind one another to remain resilient, to keep moving forward along the path, and to keep looking for all the good in each day. Grade 8 is truly made up of awesome “rock” stars!  Additionally, the students were asked to choose one word to spark vision for change and to sharpen daily intentions. The students took time to consider what they wanted more of in their lives and what they could use as a driving force for the New Year. When only a single word is chosen, it provides clarity and focus. It helps reinforce a positive vision. If you can see it, you can move towards it, and if you’re moving in the right direction, you can achieve change and alter daily interactions for the better. This activity was all about choosing to live with purpose and intentionality. Each Grade 8 student completed a One Word Vision board, and these, along with the “virtual rocks”, were shared amongst all the Grade 8 classes in hopes of inspiring and supporting one another through our new way of life and while working away from our school building.
