Model United Nations

Model United Nations, is a Committee offered at Rotherglen School for Grade 7 and 8 students, and is an educational simulation and/or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. M.U.N. involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to developing critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Rotherglen students took part in the ACMUN conference at Appleby College. This year’s theme, “it’s our time” was an admonishment to students to bring social activism to a heightened level of understanding and action. Rotherglen students were among two hundred and fifty students from a group of middle and secondary schools debating topics ranging from development plans with island states, to middle eastern conflicts, to the potential development for human resettlement on Mars in 2050!

As the day unfolded, each Rotherglen student performed admirably on committees dominated by Grade 11 and Grade 12 students. We congratulate our Grade 7 and 8 students for bringing with confidence, their thoughtful, succinct country positions to every conversation.
