News from Room 4
It has been a busy and fun-filled month in Room 4!
We began the month talking about all the changes that take place in the fall, especially with the trees. The children learned about what trees need to survive, and how they make chlorophyll. As a follow up to this lesson, we went out to the playground to look for leaves with and without chlorophyll. We also learned the parts of a tree.
As the month progressed, we began our theme of pumpkins. The children learned about the stages in the lifecycle of a pumpkin and worked with a sequencing activity to solidify their knowledge. We also learned about the various parts of a pumpkin and completed small labelling projects. We talked about all the wonderful things that we have to be thankful for and made a special Thanksgiving turkey centrepiece to take home over the Thanksgiving break. We are certain it was the masterpiece on many tables! We had our special Harvest Snack together and the children participated in a gratitude circle.
As a result of being the highest online fundraising class for Terry Fox, we won a pizza and popcorn party, which we enjoyed on Tuesday, October 17! We also had a special dance party with all of our favourite stuffies!
In line with our Character Education Program, we had several classroom discussions about what it means to have an open mindset. We talked about the importance of having an open mind and respecting others’ ideas.
Looking ahead to next month, we will begin learning about the Human Body!
