Primary Fun Summer Camp News
Week 3 of Primary Summer Camp focused on all types of Animals – a favourite theme for our younger campers!
We began our week by creating a sea turtle craft. Campers glued squares of green tissue to paper plates, added flippers, eyes, and a smile to complete the project. On Tuesday, our campers made super-sized chimpanzees using their cutting and pasting skills. We continued with the jungle animal trend for our final craft of the week, a lion mask. The children framed their own faces with carefully placed gold and orange paper manes. They had lots of fun pretending to be ‘kings of the jungle’ with this craft!
Our special visitor this week was Jenna of Pawsitively Pets. She incorporated our theme of Animal Planet into a wonderful presentation about a variety of animals, with an emphasis on animal care. The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit with and learn about Harriet the rabbit, Evie the chinchilla, Sage the hamster, Queenie the bearded dragon, Kermit the spiky tailed lizard, Blueberry the hermit crab, and Mabel the hedgehog. Each child had an opportunity to interact with the animals and to ask questions about their characteristics, as well as learning what the animals eat, how they sleep, and some fun facts too!
On Wednesday, we had perfect weather to enjoy water play and bubble fun! The weekly ice-cream truck provided each camper with a delicious cold treat. We rounded out the week with a Pizza lunch and by watching Wild Kratts – Why We Love Nature and Animals.
