On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week, we welcomed our local fire fighters from Station #4, as well as Fire Safety Officer, Ms. Elisha, to Rotherglen. Our students received important lessons about fire safety, as well as having an opportunity to tour the fire truck and see how it works!

Welcoming Our Future Grade 1 Students! In preparation for their transition to Grade 1, the Senior Kindergarten students from our Primary Campus toured the Elementary Campus! These young learners were warmly welcomed by our Grade 6 students, who served as tour guides and mentors for the morning. With “passports” in hand, the SKs explored the key spaces they’ll soon call their own; the library, the gym, the music room, and more. At each stop, their Grade 6 buddies explained how the space is used and each passport was stamped at every location, marking a moment of discovery and excitement and making the tour both fun and memorable. After the walkabout, students gathered for a light snack and conversation. The Grade 6 leaders were organized, enthusiastic, thoughtful, and incredibly kind, and they made a lasting impression on their younger peers. It was a joy to witness meaningful connections forming across grades. We’re so proud of our students and excited to welcome our SKs as full-fledged Grade 1 learners this September!

On Monday through Wednesday this week, we hosted a Mother’s Day Tea in each of our classrooms. Our students were anticipating this special day for some time! They designed lovely decoupage flower pots then planted pansy flowers in them. They also wrote lovely Mother’s Day tributes, entitled ‘All About My Mom’. Cookie decorating and lemonade were enjoyed by all. We are very grateful to all the Mom’s in our community for attending - you made your child’s day! We are also thankful to our Mother’s Day Committee, Mrs. Kuiperij and Mrs. Edmonds, as well as our Gardening Committee, Ms. Sugat and Ms. Husain, for all of their hard work in planning and preparing for this school-wide event.
This week, we also acknowledged Mental Health Week in Canada. Our students participated in a series of age-appropriate activities that focused on emotions - what they look and feel like, and how to look beyond the surface and see the whole person.
