Rotherglen Students Respond to Syrian Crisis

Our Rotherglen community will begin to raise money to support the humanitarian work of the Canadian Red Cross, in the response to the Syrian Crisis. Humanitarian needs in Syria and surrounding countries, such as Greece, Serbia, Italy and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia are becoming increasingly desperate.”Our field staff right now, working, supporting this crisis, are volunteers,” said Canadian Red Cross’ Jenn McManus. “The money is going to temporary shelter, basic needs like clothing, shelter, and water, and medical assistance for the refugees”. The Red Cross also works with the Syrian-Arab Red Crescents who deliver food, supplies and health services through the mobile clinics to 3.5 million people in Syria every month.

Our first event was held this past Friday. We sponsored a Blue & White Blue Jays Day, and requested a voluntary donation from staff and students. This first fundraising event to support the Canadian Red Cross raised a total of $860.05.

Thank you, Rotherglen! Working together, we can help to make a difference.
