Upper School Information Evening
Our community gathered last week for a special evening designed to help Grade 5 and 6 families learn more about the Upper School and the meaningful role Grades 7 and 8 play in a child’s growth. The night offered an inviting blend of conversation, exploration, and connection, giving families a clear picture of what makes these years such a valuable next step at Rotherglen.
Families were greeted with a warm welcome in the foyer, where student ambassadors welcomed guests and guided them through the evening. After opening remarks, our Head of Upper School, John Kinnaird, spoke about the shift from Junior to Upper School and how these two years strengthen academic readiness, independence, and confidence. The teacher panel that followed allowed parents to hear directly from our Grade 7 and 8 faculty about the joys and impact of teaching early adolescents. Their stories helped illustrate why so many students leave these grades feeling prepared for high school and eager for what comes next.

From there, families moved through thoughtfully prepared displays that showcased each program area. Teachers created inviting tablescapes filled with student work, course materials, and photos that highlighted the depth and richness of the curriculum. Alumni and Parent Connect members also joined us, offering reflections on how these years shaped their high school experiences and family journeys. The goal was to give parents a clear sense of how Grades 7 and 8 support academic growth, personal development, and a strong transition into Grade 9, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
We are grateful to our Upper School teachers for the care and professionalism they poured into the evening. Their commitment to their students and to this division is unmistakable. The spirit and teamwork on display reflected everything we value about our school community.
